On this episode of the Carlsbad People, Purpose, and Impact Podcast, Bret Schanzenbach speaks with Jason Merrill of SD LabRats. SD LabRats is a dynamic non-profit that is committed to providing engaging STEM programs for kids. SD LabRats was founded by Jason’s dad and his brother, who has a M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado. As the Executive Director, Jason spearheads programs that provide access to STEM education and instill a passion for science in kids of all ages.

SD LabRats’ team of scientists offers hands-on courses, after-school assemblies, Discovery Camps, and more. While their programs and curriculum are intended for kids in grades K-8, LabRats creates opportunities for high schoolers to hone their skills and engage their passion for the STEM field by allowing them to serve as teaching assistants for their courses. In this episode, Jason and Bret talk about LabRats’ upcoming Science and Sports Academy, how parents can ask LabRats to offer an afterschool assembly at their child’s school, and how LabRats’ new production company, BrainSTEMtv, makes science accessible for parents and kids.
