Witness a teacher's profound impact as she becomes a pillar of support & inspiration to her students, leading her to take on a new role as assistant principal.
In this episode, we meet Aimee Nava - CBAD’s High School Teacher of the Year 2023! Aimee is a dedicated and beloved Spanish teacher at Carlsbad High School, who creates a safe and supportive learning environment where her students feel comfortable and can thrive at their own pace. She goes above and beyond by attending their extracurricular activities, and supports their passions outside of the classroom.
Her personal connection with her students has allowed her to understand their challenges and accommodate their needs, and she believes in the importance of knowing her students beyond their grades, fostering a positive classroom experience, and encouraging them to excel in areas that they are passionate about.
Although she initially planned to continue teaching for several more years, Aimee was encouraged to pursue a role in administration. Recognizing the impact she could have in supporting students on a larger scale, she embraced the opportunity to become a full-time assistant principal at Carlsbad High School.

Teacher
I grew up in Tijuana until the age of 12 at which time my family immigrated to Oceanside, CA. I was raised to appreciate education and see it as an opportunity for success. When I immigrated here, I did not speak English which made school very challenging for me. However, I had a great ESL teacher that had a passion for teaching and helping students thrive in education. Mr. Frazier, reminded me that school was challenging but with hard work and dedication I could once again come to love education. After high school I was accepted into UCSD where I earned my Bachelor’s, Master’s and Teaching Credential. When I decided to pursue a career in education I always had the same mentality in mind: Be the teacher that students needed, be the Mr.Frazier to everyone. I started my first teaching job right out of college at Mira Mesa High School in San Diego. After that, I was offered a job at Carlsbad High School here in Carlsbad. My passion for education has greatly developed over the past six years here at CHS. I have learned that a successful educator is one that is student driven. Carlsbad has given me the opportunity to become the student driven educator I aspired to be. During my first couple of years at Carlsbad High School I focused on becoming a teacher that provided students with a safe space to thrive academically. I formed connections with my students by not only teaching them in the classroom, but by also supporting them in their goals outside of the classroom. I am proud to say that I attend most of their sports games, dance recitals, theater productions, and concert… Read More
