Learn more about the Carlsbad Chamber.
Recently, HearCommunications’ founder and hearing loss advocate, Teresa Barnes joined Bret Schanzenbach on the Carlsbad People, Purpose, and Impact Podcast. Not only does Teresa have over two decades of experience in healthcare, she is also someone who has lived with hearing loss since birth. She is committed to creating a world where people with hearing loss can thrive and businesses can create atmospheres where employees and clients who have hearing loss can connect. Certainly, with 1 in 5 people experiencing hearing loss, there is a significant portion of the population that is underserved.
After being in a near-fatal accident that occurred due to her hearing loss, Teresa decided to become a hearing loss advocate and educator. She created the federally-recognized Hearing Friendly Symbol, which helps people recognize when there are others who have hearing loss. Now, she provides Hearing Friendly Training and Certification for businesses and communities. In their conversation, Teresa shares her story, how she began HearCommunications, the ways people can prevent hearing loss, what businesses can do to be more inclusive to the hearing loss community, and more!
