Learn more about the Carlsbad Chamber.
On this episode of the Carlsbad People, Purpose, and Impact Podcast, Bret Schanzenbach speaks with three-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time world champion bobsledder Kaillie Humphries. Originally from Canada, Kaillie fell in love with an American, which led her to move to Carlsbad and become an American citizen. She is not only a trailblazer in women’s sports because she led the charge to prove that women could compete in the monobob, which resulted in its approval and was first held in the 2022 Olympics, she also holds Olympic gold medals for two countries: Canada and the United States of America.
Kaillie’s story is one of resilience, courage, and passion. When the head coach of the Olympic Canadian bobsled team was discriminatory and physically and mentally harassed her, Kaillie spoke up. However, the leadership refused to do anything about the situation, so she filed an abuse and harassment claim, which resulted in the end of her bobsled career in Canada. Upon moving to America and passing the required qualifications, she continued her bobsled career and represented the United States in the 2022 Olympics. In their conversation, Bret and Kaillie talk about her journey into bobsledding, how she stood up for herself and other women, the ways she is focused on breaking barriers for women in sports, the training regimen for an Olympic athlete, and the 2024 Olympics.
